Yesterday on February 15th, 2024, the New York State Independent Redistricting Commission (NYSIRC) approved a new proposed map for New York’s Congressional Districts.
The map fails to correct the disenfranchisement of constitutionally protected communities of color and other communities of interest like river villages in the town of Greenburgh.
The boundaries of NY-17, which Rockland County is wholly a part, remain virtually unchanged. The 17th congressional district’s borders were rammed through in 2022 by an upstate judge and an out-of-state special master.
The Rockland Democratic Committee urges the legislature to produce a better map.
